Work package 2 - Matrix materials

Coordination: VUB-MACH, MTM, MEMC, WTCB

In WP 2, innovative cementitious matrix materials will be developed: one inorganic matrix material based on alkali activation of slag, and one based on phosphate cement from waste (ashes or slags). Selection of the raw materials will be based on following criteria: minimal environmental impact (evaluated through life cycle assessment), suitable rheology, compressive strength above 50 MPa. Moreover from both materials a foam will be developed with a compressive strength of 0.8 – 1.6 MPa, a thermal conductivity below 0.04 W/m2.K and a density below 300 kg/m3.
